SITE PLANNING Site planning and land development in landscape architecture refers to the organizational stage of the landscape design process. It involves the organization of land use zoning, access, circulation, privacy, security, shelter, land drainage, and other factors. At KDG, this is done by arranging the compositional elements of landform, planting, water, buildings, and paving in site plans. Our site planning process generally begins by assessing a potential site for land development through site analysis. Information about slope, soils, hydrology, vegetation, parcel ownership, orientation, etc. are assessed and mapped for proper site planning. By determining areas that are poor for land development (such as floodplain or steep slopes) and better for land development, our landscape architects can assess an optimal location for a structure that works within this space. As registered landscape architects and land developers, we utilize site planning for both public and private institutions, commercial centers, parks, and residential community projects. By carefully incorporating our client’s vision with the environmental realities of the site, we can save time and money by avoiding the common pitfalls that often delay projects or force unnecessary redesign after a great deal of work has been done. |
